What is the Definition
of a Project? (continued)
The defining characteristics
of projects are therefore:
- Projects
have a planned product, service or result. They are defined
by descriptions of the product, and the specifications
and requirements that must be met.
- The planned results are
unique. Some projects may have similar
results, but projects are not your “day job.”
- Projects are intended
to be temporary. They should have a planned start and
stop. Closure of projects is as important
as the
initiation.
Additionally, projects are usually performed by cross-functional
teams under the leadership of a project manager
who may not have administrative control of the resources (capital
and personnel) assigned to the project, and you begin to see why a management
method specific to projects is essential. |
