A Model for Project Management
The management model to the left is based on the work of
Henri Fayol. It is a functional model
since it shows the
five basic management functions.
The model is simple, but elegant.
In the remainder of this course we will address the topics
of planning, organizing and staffing, controlling, and reporting as they apply to project management. The topic of directing
and leading is covered in a companion course.
In the next section, you will be asked to complete a self-assessment
of your current project management skills. The assessment is
structured according to this model, requires answers to 10
best practice questions in each of the functions, and will
become your baseline for improvement through action planning.
