… example of organizational support at a Power Company: (continued)
This company is large and has several projects valued over 100 million USD running concurrently. The project managers are senior and are well trained. Until three years ago, they had no senior management support groups at all. The project managers reported to the chief executive of the company, who required functional managers to support projects on a priority basis. This structure worked quite well for the company, as the CEO was very dynamic and charismatic.

In recent years as the company grew, the volume of work became too much for the CEO. The company now has a Vice President of Project Delivery Systems who coordinates all project work for the company. However, the previous organization surely represented the minimum, but most visible, project management support system in a large matrix structure.
