Remember our
New Product Launch Example?

Are the resources scheduled
smoothly?
(continued)
Here is the New Product Launch project again showing both over and under allocation of the Project Manager in the resource histogram. Remember that the PM assigned himself to too many tasks in the Project Organization stage of planning. This is the result, and it is seen very late in the planning cycle.

In this real example, the PM quickly realized both the problem and the solution. He and the team recycled back to the WBS and Project Organization. They rescheduled the PM’s time to work only one-half time on the project, but consistently from start to finish. Other team members volunteered to do the tasks originally allocated to the PM. When re-structured in this manner, the project was accomplished very successfully. Without the re-structuring, the project may have failed.
