WBS Representations: list view
On the next page is the same e-mail installation WBS presented as in indented list or outline format. Experts in mind-mapping indicate that people are less likely to reorganize a list WBS than a chart WBS. Lists create Left Brain Thinking, and teams tend freeze on the details. There is less of a tendency to change lists, therefore less ownership and commitment. We strongly recommend gathering the planning team together early in the planning cycle to create a chart WBS using Post-It Notes.

Notice that the list on the next page resembles the list of activities on the left-hand side of project management software. More companies are using software to help organize projects. We caution our clients not to initiate planning using scheduling software, since such planning is normally done by a single person in an office. Instead, have the team members meet to create a chart WBS. When they are satisfied with the way of working, only then capture it as a list WBS.
