The Statement of Work
A Statement of Work (SOW) is a narrative description of products, services, or results to be supplied. The complexity of the SOW depends on the desires and agreement of the stakeholders. SOWs are typically released by the organization procuring the work, but the selling organization may have a great deal of input into the SOW.

Typical Statement of Work Elements

  • General Scope of Work (objectives and background)

  • Contractor Tasks

  • Contract End Items (Deliverables and Performance Requirements)

  • Documentation Requirements

  • Support Equipment for End Items (if applicable)
  • Buyer Supplied Property, Facilities, Equipment, and Services

  • Special Furnished Documentation

  • Appendages, Exhibits, and Attachments to the SOW (further detail, deferred requirements)

  • Schedule or Period of Performance
