Some Tools for Risk Identification (continued)

Interviews
Another technique is to conduct facilitated interviews with team members and other stakeholders to elicit a large list of risks. In general, interviews involve a knowledgeable risk facilitator going from stakeholder to stakeholder, conducting interviews, and organizing the results in a report.

SWOT Analysis
SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. It is a structured method for identifying risks and is best performed under the direction of a knowledgeable facilitator.

Brainstorming
Brainstorming is usually a group activity, again facilitated by a person expert in such exercises. Remember the two phases of brainstorming: first the creative phase when you get all the ideas out, then the critical phase when you critique, synthesize, and evaluate the final items on the list.
